Biography[]

Olivia eavesdrops as Mrs. Hughes assigns Ashley reading material outside of the proper curriculum, which she subsequently reports.[1]

Mrs. Hughes encourages her class to go deeper in their book reports. Olivia questions how she is to do that if she didn't understand the book. Mrs. Hughes replies that she should then write a paper saying that the novel is convoluted. As class comes to an end, Olivia watches from the classroom door as Mrs. Hughes hands Ashley another book, this time I'm Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness.[2]

Olivia and Ashley work together

Olivia is partnered with Ashley in creating a functional robot, capable of completing three tasks. Ashley wants to make a robot that can sort recyclables, but Olivia has other ideas in mind. To begin, they see what parts they have. Olivia asks if Ashley has spoken to Mrs. Hughes, as she was also Olivia's favorite teacher. Assuming that's true, Ashley questions why she turned Mrs. Hughes in and got her fired, but Olivia insists that she did no such thing. While she was jealous given that she used to be Mrs. Hughes favorite, she didn't get her fired. Ashley apologizes for jumping to conclusions, as does Olivia, who initially assumed Ashley was a stuck up mean girl.[3]

Olivia attends the Founder's Award, where she runs into Ashley and compliments her pants suit. In return, Ashley compliments her rainbow pin. She then asks if Ashley would like to hang out this summer, which she admits she would like to.[4]
